Forces of Destiny

Forces of Destiny has finally arrived! The first episode aired Monday July 3rd on Disney’s Youtube channel. It starts with Rey’s journey after she meets BB-8 on Jakku. The episodes are 3 minute shorts but they are full of emotions, heroism and character.

President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy said it best:

“Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity….

We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts, which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are.

It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.”

Dave Filoni does it again! He is truly a mastermind when it comes to Star Wars, specially its animation. He captures so much emotion and character in these 2D short episodes. This new series proves to show that Star Wars is for everyone.

I’m really excited to see where this show goes. As a woman, I am really happy to see a Star Wars show that is focused on the amazing journey of strong female characters we love in this far away galaxy.

And it doesn’t stop there!! Star Wars announced that this show will come with its own set of Hasbro toys which are incredible! I got to see them at Star Wars Celebration and they are beautiful! They each come with their own special touch that represents the character in its entirety.

The show will also come with books, apparel, and much more.

First Episode: Sands of Jakku

In the first episode we follow Rey’s journey which  takes place in the timeline of The Force Awakens . The webisode starts on Jakku and Rey (voiced by Daisy Ridley) is saving BB-8 from a sand creature. The short episode foreshadows Rey using the Force without knowing what the Force is.

We also see the compassion that Rey is known for. She tells BB-8 that she is lucky to find him and calls him a friend. Even though this is a 2D animation the feelings are captured beautifully.

Second Episode: Bandits

The second episode continues with Rey’s journey through Jakku. Rey is getting ready to head to the Niima Outpost when she spots Teedo and his crew.  She flees in her speeder and is suddenly chased by the bandits. We get to see Rey’s flying skills which we loved so much in the Force Awakens. She defends BB-8 in a very LOTR way telling the Bandits : “If you want the droid, you’re going to have to come and get him.” This has Dave Filoni written all over it! Well done!!

Finally, I love that Lupita Nyong’o is narrating as Maz Kanata and the quote she starts with should be a motto for us to remember.

“The choices we make, the actions we take, moments both big and small, shape us into forces of destiny.” Maz Kanata

  2. I watched these with my four-year-old neighbor and he loved them. He has a special love for Leia and has made me watch (with him) the episode where she saves Chewie from the Wampa about 20 times by now.
